Akwa Ibom Assembly declares two seats vacant for defection - Prime 9ja  Online

The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has declared the seats of Esit Eket and Ikono State Constituencies vacant, following the defection of two members of the Peoples Democratic Party-PDP to the Young Progressive Party-YPP.

The seats were occupied by Usoro Akpanusoh, representing Esit Eket; and Asuquo Nana Udo, representing Ikono constituencies.

The Speaker of the House, Aniekan Bassey, while announcing the vacancies during plenary, said the house drew its strength from Section 109 (1) (a-g) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.

The Speaker, however, directed the Clerk of the House, Mandu Umoren, to communicate the order of the House to the appropriate authorities.
