The Akwa Ibom State Government has commenced the rollout of the 63, 336 doses of the Moderna vaccine which it took delivery of on Wednesday August 18.
This is part of measures to combat COVID-19 in the state which now has the Delta variant as confirmed by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control.
The Secretary to the State Government and Chairman, Akwa Ibom State Covid-19 management Committee, Dr Emmanuel Ekuwem, who disclosed this during a press briefing, advised citizens to ensure that they comply with non-pharmaceutical ways of protecting themselves from COVID-19 which includes washing of hands with water, use of sanitizers, wearing of facemasks and maintaining social distancing amongst others.
On the pharmaceutical method, Ekwuem who noted that the state has taken delivery of 63,336 doses of the Modena vaccine as part of its effort to combat the pandemic, stressed that full rollout of vaccination commences immediately.
He urged residents of the state take advantage of the opportunity to get vaccinated and protected against the virus, adding that the vaccine is safe and effective and will be available at designated areas in Uyo and primary healthcare center bases in the different Local government areas.
